Laura Mercier Flawless Party

Since its launch into the cut-throat local market of women cosmetics months prior, Laura Mercier has been able to stand out in a league of its own. Garnering accolades from the likes of Style magazine and Singapore Women’s Weekly , it prides itself on being the No.1 makeup range that guarantees a ‘flawless face finish’. Laura Mercier Flawless Face party was held on a bustling Friday evening at its flagship store in Tangs Plaza Beauty Hall.

Merely 15 minutes at the venue, I observed a healthy inquisitive crowd of women already forming and checking out its latest S/S13 range ‘Arabesque’, named after a ballerina dance move. Aptly named, since it was inspired by the spirit of light and movement which was translated into a five-shade palette that is soft, ethereal and beautiful. The makeup is soft and fresh, a poetic blend of pinks, blues and neutrals.

After guests were treated to sips of fruit punch and choices of canapes, theworkshop truly began when the makeup maestros, Jeffrey Tasker and Benjamin Ruiz took the stage.

Jeffrey Tasker and Benjamin Ruiz are Laura Mercier’s leading makeup artists from Texas, and were in town specially to promote the range. Armed witty jokes, affable charisma and swift experienced hands, ladies were soon engrossed as the two demonstrated a couple of easily achievable looks.

The first is one focused on a strong fuschia pink and a light coral blush which is a current runway look favourite, that surprising complemented well without appearing garish.

The second is one that I preferred better; a subtle smoky eye topped up with barely there flushed cheeks and a soft pink lip.

The latter look was versatile and simple, achieved with an eye-crayon in ‘Amethyst’, a shade of parts shimmery violet, dark gold and browns. Depending on the occasion, one can just layer onto the intensity, effectively transforming a day look to a mysterious evening look perfect for that dinner date.

Of course, these looks were all anchored by Mercier’s philosophy of having a great look starting from the perfect canvas: a flawless complexion.

Multi tones to suit all skin colors
The brand’s bestsellers are a collective of the Tinted Moisturiser, a lightweight alternative to foundation which comes in choices of shimmery, normal and oil-free tailored for various skin types; the Secret Camouflage concealer, is a cream palette with two shades (one is a yellower shade to hide blemishes, and a smaller pinkish shade to balance uneven skin tone), as well as its vitamin-rich Foundation Primer, the quintessential first step.

Jeffrey and Benjamin took turns to explain the qualities of each product, patiently listening into queries from the audience, before generating a tailored recommendation for the person. Each attendee were given a Laura Mercier mini-sized tinted moisturizer creme compact (SPF20) and a small satchet of the primer to try for themselves. I personally swear by this, due to it lightweight, non-cakey feeling and easy to glide on texture...no surprise it has become a permanent fixture in my makeup purse for quick touch ups!

A definite must have!

One thing was undoubted: much of the audience wanted to be the Laurier Mercier woman then, judging by the bottlenecks at the cashier when the demonstration ended.

After all, when simple flawless perfection is within fingertips, wouldn't you want it too?
