An Evening with ELLE x Francis Kurkdjian: The ELLE20 Perfume

ELLE Singapore's turning 20 this year, and they're making it a special one. Collaborating with master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian (who has done work for Gaultier and Givenchy), the ELLE20 fragrance is made with the ELLE Singapore woman in mind, and encapsule her free-spirited, sophisticated self. Held at the Escentials storefront at Paragon, it was an exclusive invite-only event that I was fortunate to be invited to.

When asked about the fragrance Kurkdjian replies, “I wanted something that would be colourful and fruity, but not obvious and in your face. And I wanted it to have a pink-ish feel. It should smell like pink, if pink could have a scent.” He also took into account inspiration from her traits as well as Singapore lifestyle as well. “I also wanted a burst of cleanness, so that (the perfume) can combat the humidity of Singapore,” said the Frenchman.

Notes in the fragrance include mandarin, orange blossom, pink laurel and musk, a truly light scent that does not overwhelm the senses. It is a refreshing yet sophisticated scent that fades gently After comparing notes with some guests, we realized interestingly that the scent smelled different on each of our skin; mine had a stronger mandarin note while on Ben's hand, it smelled muskier. How interesting!

Another one of Kurkdjian's best selling fragrances, the Aqua Universalis.
Due to the good response to this cause, I understood that there was 7 instead of the initial 5 bottles up for grabs. Each winner of the auction were able to have their exclusive bottles personally signed by Mr Francis Kurkdjian, which the perfumer was more than happy to oblige despite his obvious fatigue from his flight.

While the rest of us weren't able to go home with the fragrance, each attendee went home with the a mini vial of the Aqua Universalis fragance, the latest issue of ELLE magazine as well as a Escentials $20 voucher. (X'mas shopping, here we come!)

Unfortunately, I was unable to find out the total bid amount of the silent auction, but if you do the math ( 7 x $380 per min bid), it probably was a great one! Best of all, 100% of the proceeds benefit the initiatives by Singapore Committee for UN Women, which seeks to help and empower under-privileged women make better lives.

Thank you ELLE Magazine for having us to share this special moment!
Happy 20th Birthday!
