Digital Fashion Week 2013: Mae Pang + Designer Showcase

To be honest, when I first heard Digital Fashion Week...I went "Whhhhut???" I envisioned people glued to their computers in their underwear and watching live streaming of runway shows.
Well... *sheepishly*, turns out I was half right.

#DigitalFashionWeek is the world’s first live streaming fashion week that people can shop from. A collaboration between DFW, YouTube, Google+ and Twitter;  latest collections are shown to consumers in real time. Viewers can  instantly purchase off the runway, and have it delivered within 4 to 8 weeks. Online fans worldwide can also catch live #DigitalFashionWeek action from backstage, pre/post show interviews and runway shows, as well as interact on all major social networking platforms instantly.

Entering, the place was packed and invitees wandered around sponsor's booths and displays while awaiting entry into the runway arena. AMPed was the official music sponsor in providing and matching soundtracks to suit each  individualistic show.

Parfum Du Bois, a niche luxury perfume house was also debuting their range of fragrances. Its origins go way back to fifth generation perfumers from the 17th Century, in Grasse. What's special is that its made from the aquilaria tree; where Oud oil (their key ingredient) is extracted. A protected species for more than a decade, the oil Du Bois uses however, is harvested from their own sustainable plantations in Thailand and Sri Lanka.

Ever had a nice instagram shot and wished that you could have it in paper and share it with friends? Now you can! InstaPrint is the first ever Instagram live-feed and live-printing service that allowed DFW invitees to instagram their own pictures, hashtag #digitalfashionweek and see it printed for keeps right in front of them!

Mae Pang has been a much celebrated local label, and I think just about the only one I know that has been featured on front-rower internationally famous fashion blogger, Susie Bubble (of blog Style Bubble). An edgy label with contemporary street-smart pieces; each creation bears elements of shape, line and colour with materials like its signature mesh. I've seen some of her gorgeous pieces at a previous Blueprint Emporium and I was looking forward to seeing her latest collection.

The Mae Pang girl is never too girly nor strong looking. Like what they say, the devil is truly in the details.
Noticeably of course, ample of her signature mesh was spotted, in full pieces or as sleeves or shoulders inserts. A primary palette of strong reds, navy and metallic tone are juxtaposed with the sheer whites and floaty floral chiffon separates. She keeps a balance of sensuality, with translucent fabrics pared down with longer hemlines, grunged up with sneakers and buckled boots.

The designer takes her bow
The show ended far too soon, and we decided to wander around the 2nd floor designer showroom, which to my delight, stocked some of my favourite brands such as Feist Heist, lIng Wu and Carrie K. Event goers had a chance to preview and feel the latest collections of the 22 local and international labels, firsthand.

Oh be still, my straying heart...
