Sans & Sans Summer Collection: Contemporary Chinoiserie

The Chinoise-inspired trend is given a new lease of cool with new fashion brand Sans & Sans, the new kid on the fashion block by homegrown apparel retail group, City Blue Boutique in July 2013. Described by Ms. Wendy See, Executive Director and the brain behind the brand, Sans and Sans is built on oriental heritage and rich culture, and believes that staying stylish should remain affordable and comfortable.

Although I missed out the launch due to work, the lovely people at Sans & Sans kindly sent over some shopping love and I dropped over their Marina Square outlet. The look of the store was cozy, but I was greeted rather frostily by one of the sales lady there, which left me feeling rather unnerved.

Initial unhappiness aside, I found the storefront one of the most lovely I've ever seen. The Sans and Sans boutique at Marina Square and its latest capsule are inspired by the signature Shanghainese architectural style of 'Shikumen' 石库门 (stone warehouse gate), combining Western and Chinese elements that first appeared in the 1860s.

The adoption of these Shikumen-imbued motifs and prints gives an interesting edge to everyday staples like tailored pants, crisp menswear-inspired shirts, and a soft satin romper; think Chinese tiles on dresses and blossom prints and lace. Here's a peek at some of their latest offerings...

The current collection offers a bright and bold palette of yellows, cameo red and olive greens which brings to mind the iconic silhouettes along the historic corridors of Shikumen. To answer the calls of ever-changing fashion chameleons, one will be pleased to know that Sans & Sans updates their apparel and accessories selections on a weekly basis, making staying on-trend a breeze.

I love the assortment of accessories that they have currently: its a grunge chic-lovers haven with its moderate collective of jewellery.Score major style points with their studded bracelets, geometric statement rings and badge pins, the easiest way to dressing up an outfit! Layer quirky animal-polka dotted scarves with some metallic choker necklaces for some extra street cred..

I was really spoiled for choice here (read: almost 2+ hours of choosing and trying!), everything looked so good! There was something for almost every occasion; from the premium dressy cocktail gowns for that swanky gala dinner, corporate looking work dresses and separates for work to casual slacks and linen shorts for weekend escapades.

In the end, I picked a silk cream blouse with gold buttons, a khaki A-line skirt with pockets and grey loose top with black shoulder sleeves. I loved timeless pieces like these that will take me through passing trends and beyond.

Bag: Online, Denim studded dress: FleaMarket, Wedges: Rubi Shoes
Thank You Sans & Sans! I'll be featuring their outfits in my upcoming #ootds, so do keep a lookout for it!
